Hon. Damien O’Connor
Minister and MP for West Coast – Tasman
Parliament Buildings
Wellington
Dear Damien
My letters to you and Mr Robert Smillie, Crown Minerals, dated 31 July
2007.
Your office advised me by phone some time ago that you had written to both Crown Minerals and the Associate Minister of Energy regarding my concerns for some resolve on my greenstone applications and associated legal implications.
Unfortunately to date, I have not received a reply from Mr Smillie of Crown Minerals or from the Ministry.
With respect, I am starting to wonder if both the Ministry and the Labour Government are intent
on allowing me to continue having to pay a bond on my original mining license area and also may retain the same attitude as the Associate Minister, that my legitimate claims for resolve on the matter are nothing other than claims for compensation for economic loss.
I can assure you, I certainly have had a huge economic loss, but my demands are directly related to damages caused by the deprivation of my statutory rights and the continue refusals of the Ministry to acknowledge and rectify this.
I should not have to remind you that over the years, I personally have contributed significantly towards the NZ mineral industry and invested large amounts of oversea funds to the economy of our country in the process.
Notwithstanding the legitimacy of my new discoveries that have now been intentionally passed on to the new mineral owners, subject to the Ngai Tahu (Pounamu Vesting) Act 1997.
My approaches are an honest final attempt to settle this matter out of court at a reasonable resolve.
If the Ministry and Government want to continue their stances of denial then please rest assured, I will not rest until the entire country knows what has happened, because it is a political issue also, as you and the Prime Minister know too well.
Respectfully though, I hope you may follow up on this matter on my behalf please.
Yours sincerely
